Retirement of Trustees – 2025
Retirement of Trustees
In September 2025 two of the original Trustees of Wirral Community Choir Association stepped down – the end of an era!
In 2018, Wirral 6th Form College brought to an end the ‘evening class’ which had created the choir; and so after 12 years of growth from a few voices to a 100-strong choir, we were forced to either pick up the gauntlet and become a stand-alone entity or abandon the choir. Our Musical Director at that time, Stephen Mannings was also due to leave us – so there were many changes to deal with along with setting up a functioning choir.
Fortunately a small team of committed people brought this about and eight years later, despite several hurdles the core of our choir have remained loyal and faithful and have enjoyed many more years of rehearsals, concerts and social evenings
Sadly, two of that original team are now stepping down. Our first Chair of Trustees – Cy Green – developed the choir Constitution and presented this to the choir members in 2018 for approval. This was adopted unanimously and our choir truly became ‘ours’ operating independently and successfully from the original IGM. Cy has since hosted and chaired the majority of the Trustees meetings and has steered us through some very difficult and challenging times. Our new Chair of Trustees, Philippa Watts has quite rightly said, you leave “big shoes to fill”
Our grateful thanks and sincere gratitude to you Cy, for your commitment and many years of service to our choir and we hope you will now enjoy years of ‘just singing’ with us
Our first Vice Chair of Trustees – John Thackray – was a great support to Cy Green during his tenure and has been a mine of information on many topics, bringing tremendous value to choir planning. For several years he also hosted the ‘Performance & Music’ group meetings with invaluable input from members’ representatives
Our grateful thanks also go to John for his years of commitment and service to our choir, and we know you will still bring your wonderful tenor voice and musicality to choir.
We are very grateful to Karen Green and Jacky Thackray – for wonderful and generous hosting skills and for the ‘loan’ of their husbands during their tenure as Trustees – there is so much time spent privately working on choir ‘business’ when involved at this level in an endeavour like our choir and your support is very much appreciated by us all

We welcome our new Chair of Trustees – Philippa Watts – we wish you every success in the role!
